First Take reacts to the Titans placing a franchise tag on Derrick Henry ... Minkah Fitzpatrick has been a turnover machine for the Pittsburgh Steelers - … September 14, 2019 6:30 am ET Late Thursday night, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the Dolphins granted permission to Minkah Fitzpatrick’s agent, Joe Segal, to seek out a trade … That flexibility would mean that Tennessee could stay in the 5-DB package for the entire game and really never lose anything.Fitzpatrick and Byard can both play in the box well (Fitzpatrick has 16.5 TFLs and 5 sacks over the last three years) so big formations wouldn’t be a problem. If a deal gets done, it’ll be on Fitzpatrick’s camp to find a suitor. Minkah Fitzpatrick has all the makings of a star DB.He would give the Titans two of the most versatile safeties in the NFL and it would allow Dean Pees to get very creative with his coverages and blitzes. Through two games this season, the 22-year-old has compiled 12 tackles and one forced fumble. The Dolphins offseason (and preseason, and regular season…) teardown is essentially complete.

If the Dolphins do trade Fitzpatrick, La Canfora says it would represent the end of the team’s teardown and draft-pick accumulation. If that is true then trading down like this make a lot of sense for both parties. That at least patches the holes the Titans have and gives them a chance to get lucky at EDGE with a potential starter in 2019 when they really need him.So would you sacrifice filling some pretty big holes now in order to get one of the most dominant DB units in the league? As ESPN’s Field Yates While yesterday’s report indicated that a Fitzpatrick trade would ultimately represent the end of the team’s teardown and draft-pick accumulation, it sounds like the Dolphins aren’t necessarily eyeing a return to relevance in 2020. None of his base salaries exceed $2.5MM on his rookie deal.Fitzpatrick, who projected to be a cornerback/safety coming into the league, is unhappy with how the organization making him play multiple positions on defense. A fifth-year option decision will not be due until May 2021. The Steelers, meanwhile, get Fitzpatrick, a 2020 fourth-round choice, and a 2021 sixth-round selection.Fitzpatrick is an undeniably gifted defensive back who has been less than thrilled with the multiple roles he has been asked to fill in Miami’s defense to date. Could the Tennessee Titans land a great player falling down boards? Well there is a scenario that makes sense for both sides. The Titans don’t want to have any less than 6 picks and if Lamar Jackson is gone by 15 then they really may shift their efforts to a more developmental QB and focus on rebuilding that roster. The Alabama product has played both cornerback and safety, with the Dolphins also having him work in the slot and at linebacker this season. Miami will receive a 2020 first-rounder in return. That’s not welcome news for the Fitzpatrick’s rookie deal was worth $16.447MM over four years. Fitzpatrick’s agent, Joel Segal, has been in contact with several teams and Miami’s asking price appears to be high, as it involves a first-round pick.Mortensen spoke with a personnel man from a rival team who said it would be surprising if the Dolphins netted a first-rounder for Fitzpatrick. I have no idea why Minkah Fitzpatrick wouldn’t be drafted in the top-10, but the more you read and hear, the more it looks like that may happen.Every year a really talented player gets pushed out of the top-10 either because people value other positions higher or because teams make dumb decisions based on how well you test at the combine. While some people may fall for a combine star like Derwin James (just ignore the few games he had against real competition on tape) and others may need a QB or someone in the front seven, Fitzpatrick seems to be quietly slipping through the cracks.Last few days of talking to people and hearing Minkah Fitzpatrick is going too early in these media mock drafts, and Harold Landry is going too late.I have been very clear that I think LB and EDGE are the two big needs for the Titans and that they should attack those positions in the first two rounds of the draft. However, I have said this whole process that the Titans need to be looking for stars not just above average hole-fillers.

The endless roving has frustrated Fitzpatrick, who represents one of the Dolphins’ few remaining assets that would fetch a high price in a trade. A really solid offense with a great young QB along with that defense could still make a really strong push in the post season, though they would have some clear weaknesses.I honestly don’t know how I would feel about this, but for the next three years (while Byard/Adoree/Fitz are on their rookie contracts) the Titans would have a pretty cheap and outstanding group of DBs.It is one of the many options that the Titans have to consider as the offseason progresses.Build your custom FanSided Daily email newsletter with news and analysis on Tennessee Titans and all your favorite sports teams, TV shows, and more.Your privacy is safe with us.
