All club’s participating in the NPL Southwest league are required to complete all scheduled competitions for which they are scheduled or for which they qualify in the post-season, including without limitation participation in post-season Boys ENPL play-offs and the Girls NPL Finals. The league will have the same tentative start date of December 2020 and will terminate in May 2021. The league will be accepting and reviewing applications for club’s interested in joining the league after the Spring 2020 season. This is subject to change, of course, but it is our hope that our members can begin to sensibly return to the fields after that, subject to some requirements and recommendations. This year the league will feature 3 levels of play, the Premier Division, Division 1 & 2 and the Pre NPL Division. In 1980, NPL had declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was scraping by on bid jobs (that’s a story for another post) when a former employee reached out to Noel Coon with an opportunity in a new region. This will be a local league competition that will give teams and clubs additional league programming for this season. Highly acclaimed programming elements, including id² and PDPs will be implemented in the SoCal NPL. It wasn’t gas work, though. But, as parts of the country begin to open up over the coming weeks, we encourage everyone to exercise extreme caution and continue to abide by public health experts’ guidelines for hygiene, physical distancing, facemask use, etc. Of course, we also recognize that even after restrictions on assembly are lifted, many people will not be eager to travel long distances, especially by air.

These Divisions will feature league champions and will have the opportunity to participate in US Club Soccer's National Cup programming.The Southwest Pre NPL Division is also a team based division for clubs and teams that will also provide additional league based programming for the 2020/2021 season for the small-sided age groups. While we realize this will be a great disappointment to clubs, teams, players and their families, we also want to be sensitive to the situation at hand. If we all remain resolute and keep up the good fight by behaving responsibly and obeying public health guidelines, we’ll more quickly find ourselves back on the soccer fields and living more normal lives. The year round league play that it offers as well as the NPL Regionals and US Club Soccer Championships provides a great experience and top competition for our teams.
The return-to-play decision is a complicated one. There are certainly encouraging signs, however, not least of which is the willingness of so many people all over the country to accept short-term hardship in service to the greater good.
